UPDATE to traffic crash in Frostproof – only one southbound lane of US 27 near the intersection of US 98 is open. The northbound lanes are open. All lanes of US 98 are open.
There is no personal information on the occupants – deputies are at the hospitals to get that information now. The adult male driver of the RV was taken by ambulance to Tampa General Hospital; the adult female passenger was airlifted to TGH; both are in critical condition; the pickup truck driver was taken by ambulance to LRHMC, and he has serious injuries.
ORIGINAL ARTICLE: The PCSO traffic unit is investigating a two-vehicle crash in Frostproof this afternoon at the intersection of US 27 and US 98.
Preliminary information indicates a pickup truck heading northbound on US 27 crossed the center and entered into the path of a southbound RV motor home that was pulling a Fiat. The collision caused the RV to catch fire. The adult male and female occupants of the RV have been transported to the hospital. The pickup truck driver has also been transported. There are no updates on their injuries at this time.
US 27 southbound is shut down in that area. Motorists are advised to use an alternate route. When crews are able to clear some of the debris, traffic will be able to move in one lane in each direction.
