High School Valentine’s Day Policy

Policy regarding Valentine remembrances at Fort Meade Middle Senior High School is as follows. If you would like to remember your student at school on Tuesday, February 14th for Valentines Day, you will need to utilize a licensed florist like Strawberry Patch.  We will not accept walk in or student to student deliveries for Valentine items.  Our local licensed florists know and understand our Valentines policy and work with us so it is not an academic disruption.  Our recommendation is to keep your Valentines wishes at home.  We encourage you to express your acfection to your children and to that special someone on Valentine’s Day.

Road Closures in Polk County

Bartow, Fla. (January 26, 2017) — In Lakeland, a CSX repair project will close the South Wabash Avenue rail crossing  between Olive Street and Mershon Street for about a week starting Monday. While work to replace timbers will be performed overnight, crossing will remain closed for the duration of the project. CSX crossing is south of the Publix corporate complex along George Jenkins Boulevard. Motorists using this crossing should expect lengthy detours. For more information, contact CSX at 1-800-232-0144.

A Polk County project near Fort Meade will detour some commuters as drainage and bridge repairs underway on Monday will close Keller Road at Bowlegs Creek to through-traffic for about 11 weeks. Work zone is in a sparsely populated area on Keller Road about two miles south of U.S. Highway 98 (Frostproof Highway) and three-fifths of a mile north of Dishong Road near Mosaic’s South Fort Meade mine. Depending on destination or direction of travel, detour route may require taking U.S. Highway 98 or Dishong Road to Mt. Pisgah Road or South Orange Avenue through Fort Meade. Contact Bill Skelton with the Polk County Roads & Drainage Division at863-535-2200 for further details.

Motorists are encouraged to drive with caution, obey traffic signs, and allow more time for trips through these areas.
